"Over It?" and Me
The remembrances of 9/11 on the 10th Anniversary have concluded and an article in the local Free Press entitled "We the Six Billion: Are We Over It" asks several telling questions of "we the people." We certainly take liberty with motives and rationalizations with respect to OUR behaviors. It's an axiom in psychology of misattribution. Our behavior is a function of situational antecedents (attacks of 9/11) while they're behavior is a function of personal antecedents (terrorists, Muslims). Of course they're doing the same thing in the same way, that is, their behavior is a function of situational antecedents (U.S. imperialism or other labels associated with us) while our behavior is a function of personal antecedents (greed, avarice, gluttony, power hungry). The end result is a belief that we both must stop one another. It's a deadly "zero sum" game. Commoners are the victims and the participants.
